Many visitors are surprised to learn that the building is a working Courthouse, and also a National Historic Landmark and community treasure. Completed in 1929 after a 1925 earthquake damaged much of the city, including an earlier Courthouse on the same block, the Spanish Colonial Revival style helped define Santa Barbara's look as the city rebuilt.
